Conor McGregor stole the show in New York after getting into an altercation with rapper Machine Gun Kelly on the MTV VMA’s red carpet on Sunday night.

While the crowd outside the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York was expecting an electric show inside the arena, the red carpet brought action of it’s own as former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor got into an altercation with rapper Machine Gun Kelly.

Details of what exactly incited the scuffle are unconfirmed, but footage showed McGregor aggressively going after Kelly more than once and throwing an open bottle at the musician.  Eventually, both sides were separated on the crowded carpet and went into the venue at different times.  McGregor was on the carpet with his wife Dee Devlin while Kelly was with his girlfriend Megan Fox.

Kelly gave no comment about the incident when asked about it on the red carpet.  McGregor briefly spoke with Entertainment Tonight backstage during the event where he stated in regards to happened:

“Absolutely nothing. I don’t know. He showed up, and I don’t know. I don’t know the guy. Nothing happened with me, I only fight real fighters, people that actually fight, you know what I mean. I certainly don’t fight little Vanilla Ice boy rappers. I don’t even know the guy. I don’t know anything about him, except that he’s with Megan Fox.”

Both men went on for their scheduled roles in the show.  McGregor presented the award for Artist of the Year while Kelly was there to perform his song “Papercuts” with Travis Barker.  Kelly also won the award for Best Alternative Video for “My Ex’s Best Friend” earlier in the show.  Coincidentally, Kelly and Fox were in attendance for McGregor’s last bout: the rubber match with Dustin Poirier in Las Vegas.
