5. Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman
The weird Six Degrees of Uriah Hall situation that played out with Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman will be explained in a later post. For now, let’s turn the clock back to December 28, 2013.
The great Anderson “The Spider” Silva had already come crashing back down to earth when Chris Weidman ended his title reign via knockout earlier that year. The rematch, a given with a legend like Silva, came a little under six months later at UFC 168, but it lacked any sort of decisive ending.
Instead, Silva snapped his leg on a kick early in the second round. The image of Silva’s limb wrapping around Wiedman’s leg was instantly seared into the memory of all watching. Incredibly, Silva would return to fighting just over a year later, but his glory days were done. He would win just twice more in the UFC, and one of those fights was overturned due to a drug test failure.

Luckily, Silva’s story ends on a happy note, for now: earlier this year, he reigned supreme in a boxing match against veteran Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
