6. Frank Mir vs. Big Nog

Frank Mir’s submission win over legendary heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (Big Nog) earned him a Submission of the Night bonus at UFC 140 in December 2011. It earned Brazil’s Nogueira some time on the shelf.

The famed Nogueira brothers were not exactly known for tapping to submissions. With an old school mentality, Nogueira went out on his shield, allowing Mir to break his arm with a kimura rather than tap to the submission.

This was one of those fights where, as gruesome as the injury was, the fight itself was equally thrilling. Nogueira had Mir hurt early in the bout. But the American battled back, and the transitions on top were simply brilliant.
