Something to Prove

This last round of flyweight prospects still have a lot to prove. They either haven’t turned the corner in their career or just haven’t proved themself. Nkazimulo Zulu (13-4), Tony Laramie (5-2), Giacomo Santoro (6-0), Chris Ocon (5-2) are still in the shadows of the flyweight division.

Nkazimulo Zulu has a lot of experience and has fought some good competition. But every time so far when he’s had a step-up in competition he’s fallen short. He came up short on season 24 of The Ultimate Fighter. He lost to two good prospects in Faeez Jacobs and Demarte Pena and lost to UFC fighter Jake Hadley. Still, Zulu remains a huge prospect out of South Africa fighting for EFC. Zulu is a former bantamweight champion and a two-time flyweight champion.

Tony Laramie is the younger brother of UFC fighter TJ Laramie. The Canadian started off his career going 2-2 but has won his last three. The last time he fought in March of 2020 he won the Prospect Fighting Championships (PFC) flyweight title. Laramie is a super impressive young athlete that’s still a student of the sport. His game plan is to smash through his opponents with output and forward pressure. He’s a well-versed prospect.

Giacomo Santoro from Roma, Italy is an IMMAF European silver medalist. He’s one of the most promising prospects out of Italy. The submission grappler is a former Enfusion FC title-holder.

Chris Ocon is more known for his contender series appearance in 2019. He ended up losing to Hunter Azure and went on to lose his very next fight to Victor Altamirano. Both those guys are UFC fighters in his defense. Ocon was a talked-about prospect coming into his contender series and did get back on the board last July.
