Tuesday’s RIZIN 54 card (yes, that’s midweek MMA, a major event no less) ran into some troubles ahead of the event thanks to struggles at the scale.
Patchy Mix, set to return in the night’s co-main event against Shoko Sato, badly missed weight for the fight, coming in at 2.85kg over (that’s north of six pounds) for what was to be a bantamweight fight. As a result, Patchy will start the fight with a two-point penalty, and should he win, the bout will go down as a No Contest.
Mix had a rough go in the UFC, then dropped his RIZIN debut; it seems the former Bellator champ’s struggles aren’t yet over.
Mix wasn’t alone, as Alibek Gadzhamatov also missed weight for his bout, and will face the same two-point deduction. He’ll also see a No Contest recorded should he win.
