Dana White’s Contender Series: Six Of The Biggest Snubs So Far

Kenny Cross (12-3)

Our first snub came in season four, in which Kenny Cross had some bad luck which led to him being passed over.

“The Boss” was supposed to main event the first week of season four against Kevin Syler. Five days before the fight, Syler tested positive for COVID-19. The UFC was considering just signing Cross outright but decided to give him a new opponent. Damonte Robinson was that new opponent, but was not medically cleared due to an eye issue on weigh-in day. Cross cut the weight and weighed in. Two weeks later, Cross would get his chance to compete on the show against his original opponent Syler.

Cross would win the fight via unanimous decision but would completely gas in the third round due to cutting weight twice in two weeks.

White would pass on him.

“He beat a guy tonight who is undefeated, 10-0. I don’t think he looked great tonight doing it. I believe this kid is still young and will be in the UFC one day if he stays the course and does his thing, just not tonight,” White told Laura Sanko.

That was the first time Cross had gone to a decision in his career. He is a finisher with six knockouts and four submissions. He is incredible on the mic and can talk trash with the best of them. Cross would have been a fantastic signing.
