Scouting Prospects for the Contender Series Season 5: Part 1

Maycon Mendonça

Welterweight | 28 | Göteborg, Sweden | 11-4 | Win Streak: 5 | 4 KO/TKOs, 1 Submission

A few years ago, Mendonca wasn’t even a passing thought in terms of being on the doorstep of the UFC or Dana White’s Contender Series. Not long ago, Mendonca was on a three-fight skid. Now he’s won his last five fights and is the current LFA welterweight champion. He just had a Fight of the Year performance against Batsumberel Dagvadorj in a crazy war to win the LFA title. Wins against Dagvadorj, Bobby Lee, Devin Smyth, and Kassius Kayne all look good on his record. Being an LFA champion and with his fight style I’d expect to see him on the Contender Series this Summer.

Mo Miller

Bantamweight | 28 | Cleveland, Ohio, US | 5-0 | Win Streak: 11 | 3 KO/TKOs, 1 Submission

Perhaps with only five fights, he’s just not ready yet— but with Mo Miller, I believe he is. Miller trains out of Strong Style Fight Team, the home of UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and a number of other high-level fighters. Miller fought his last two fights inside the LFA cage. He has a win over a good prospect in Mando Gutierrez and a highlight-reel slam knockout against Regivaldo Carvalho. Miller has looked spectacular in his pro career and don’t forget he had a 6-0 amateur career as well. That should be enough experience to get the call for the Contender Series this year.
