Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone hinted he’d been offered a big fight over the weekend. On Tuesday, he let slip on social media that it might be Conor McGregor.

Over the weekend in Denver, Cowboy Cerrone picked up a huge win at UFC Fight Night 139. Otherwise known as UFC Denver and serving as the UFC’s 25th anniversary event, Cerrone nearly tore Mike Perry’s arm off, submitting the rugged welterweight via arm-bar. Post-fight, however, Cerrone reiterated that he was dead set on moving back to lightweight and making a run at the title. He also hinted that the UFC had offered him a “very exciting” name at 155lbs.

He just didn’t say who. Guesses from Nate Diaz to Justin Gaethje to Conor McGregor popped up on social media. Now, Cerrone himself has added fuel to the fire, making a post on Instagram that would seem to indicate it’s McGregor.

“Just waiting on him,” Cerrone wrote below a photo for the former featherweight and lightweight champion. “I know a guy.”

A fight between the two would certainly be a marquee match-up. McGregor is the UFC’s biggest star. Cerrone just took over the record for most wins in UFC history. Even coming off a loss, McGregor will command top billing (not to mention top dollar), and a high value opponent. With Cerrone setting records and coming off a win, he’s checked all the right boxes.

The UFC has not officially commented on any match-making plans.
