BKB 59 will see the Mighty Trigon touch down in Tijuana, and there are several moving parts attached to this foray into Mexico. On the heels of a massive offering in Miami that saw Gustavo Trujillo maintain his spotless ledger and Yuriorkis Gamboa make his debut in gloveless combat, the promotion is still firing on all cylinders post-BKB 58.
The promotion partnering up with Zanfer played a key role in terms of logistical considerations for operating within that market. Fernando Beltran, founder of Zanfer, has also mentioned that this is simply the beginning of bigger, mutually aligned plans between the two entities.
Zanfer has been prominent within the Mexican boxing scene over the years, with BKB acknowledging repeatedly not just the historical importance of stand-up fighting in Mexico but also how viable BKB can function as a live event attraction within that area of the world.
September 19th is when this partnership kicks off, and there will be a pair of hugely intriguing championship clashes set to emanate from Auditorio Municipal at BKB 59.
The main event attraction will see Julian Fernandez vs. Dan Podmore, with the former defending his super cruiserweight title against the latter. Fernandez has a spotless ledger in gloveless combat as he is 3-0 with one no contest, and all his victories came by way of a first-round finish.
Podmore is a multi-division champion across the prior BKB regime in the UK, and the current amalgamated organization after the former BYB Extreme merged with the property, then rebranded to BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing. The bruiser out of the United Kingdom aims to further decorate an already crowded mantle when ‘Big Pod’ steps into enemy territory here.
BKB 59 Mexico
In the co-main event, Cecy Ulloa vs. Andy Nguyen will throw down for the vacant BKB super flyweight Police Gazette diamond title.
Ulloa has been competing in the sport since BKFC 4, when she threw down with bare-knuckle standout of the modern era, Bec Rawlings, for championship gold. The 40-year-old then crossed over to the Mighty Trigon and battled ranked BKFC contender Shelby Cannon, with Ulloa since notching back-to-back BKB wins followed by a no-contest verdict in her last clash at BKB 50 in January.
For Nguyen, she has notable experience across both BKFC as well as BKB competition. The 44-year-old is coming off a unanimous decision win against Cristina Crist at BKB: Bally’s Fight Night in January.
BKB’s schedule coming up
BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing is keeping the action rolling after September 19th, and that is evidenced by BKB 60 in Newcastle. The October 10th card is still set to feature Mick Terrill versus Kamil Sokolowski, although some wonder if amendments may be made in the wake of Terrill being finished by Trujillo in the second stanza of their August 29th Florida fight.
Also, BKB Biloxi is set for October 23rd with a hugely significant lightweight clash between former multi-promotion champion Jarod Grant and ex-UFC and ex-BKFC vet Bekhzod Usmonov.
