International Fight Week is here, and UFC 329 arrives to cap it off this Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where Conor McGregor makes his return in a rematch with Max Holloway.
The pair first met in 2013, with McGregor coming away with a decision victory. Both men would go on to become featherweight champions, and both would claim second belts: McGregor at lightweight, Holloway the BMF title. Conor would never defend either of his titles, instead choosing to prefer a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather in 2017 that became one of the most-watched of all time.
In 2021, with their career series tied 1-1, McGregor fought in a rubber match with Dustin Poirier, only to break his leg early in the bout. Reminiscent of Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman, he’d wind up booked to return in 2024, only to break his toe ahead of a planned fight with Michael Chandler, who he coached opposite on The Ultimate Fighter 31 the previous year.
With Chandler slumping, it’s Holloway landing the McGregor payday at UFC 329. The card is the rare numbered event not to feature a title fight, and while the co-main event of Paddy Pimblett vs. Benoit St-Denis is a great fight in and of itself, it’s clear who the featured attraction here is.
