It wasn’t quite Christmas in June, but Slava Claus did come to town on Saturday, at least in Las Vegas, as Viacheslav Borshchev faced off against Terrance McKinney at UFC 317.
The lightweight fight found Borshchev, affectionately named “Slava Claus,” looking to return to the win column after a loss to Tom Nolan last time out. The Team Alpha Male fighter had three post-fight bonuses to his name in the UFC, while “T-Wrecks” McKinney had never, in the entirety of his professional MMA career, seen the judges.
McKinney got off to a hot start in Saturday’s first televised prelim, catching a Borshchev kick and taking him down. McKinney was all over him, locking up an anaconda choke, and “Slava Claus” was stuck in a really nasty spot! McKinney managed to mount for a guillotine, making things worse. Borshchev held on as long as he could, but finally started just flailing his legs, as if trying to run out of the cage but with nowhere to go given he was on the mat. Instead, he had to tap at long last, giving McKinney yet another big win, big finish, first round finish, and once again keeping him far, far away from the judges.
Christmas might be cancelled for Borshchev, but Terrance McKinney certainly had reason to celebrate.
Official Result: Terrance McKinney def. Viacheslav Borshchev by submission (guillotine choke), Round 1, 0:55
