10 Flyweight Prospects the UFC Should Sign in 2023

Josh “The Fearless” Van

21 | 5’5″ | Myanmar/Texas, US | 7-1 | 100% Finish-rate | 5 KO/TKOs, 2 Submissions | Combined Opponents’ Record: 30-14 | Best Win – Paris Moran (7-1)

Van exploded on the scene in 2022 as a top prospect in the flyweight division. Van has been very active and in 2022 he went 5-0. Nobody expected him to beat Paris Moran but he did and he finished Moran. To cap off such a fantastic career year he ended 2022 winning the vacant Fury FC title. Van ended 2021 with a loss and won five straight in 2022 finishing all opponents.

From the muay thai plum or just in the phone booth, Van is nasty with his offense. He throws relentlessly to the body with knees and hooks being his main focus when he’s in close. His biggest gray area is easily his takedown defense. Not long ago, he showed how much of a slick grappler he is by hitting a rare calf slicer submission. On the feet, Van is a mix of power, aggression, gritty, and fluidity. Van will throw his hands, and some heavy kicks to the body and legs while mixing in some knees as well. Van even likes to throw with some flash with spinning kicks to the body and head. Nothing overdone, as everything seems thought out with what he throws.
