10 Flyweight Prospects the UFC Should Sign in 2023

Asu Almabaev

28 | 5’5″ | Almaty, Kazakhstan | 17-2 | 11 Finishes | 3 KO/TKOs, 8 Submissions  | Combined Opponents’ Record: 89-27 | Best Win – Zach Makovsky (21-10)

Almabaev has one of if not the best resumes as a flyweight outside the UFC. The former UFC fighters he’s beaten are Zach Makovsky and Chris Kelades, while also beating a lot of other good fighters. He’s a former champ for Naiza FC, M1, and currently fights for Brave. Almabaev has a background in freestyle wrestling, was a national champion in jiu-jitsu, and has a BJJ world cup.

On the feet Almabaev is quick, he has good fast hands, and he throws a lot of volume with combinations. His takedown defense is his glaring weakness but his good BJJ bails him out of bad positions. He’s most well-rounded and with proven cardio, he’s a solid fighter. He’s one of the best flyweight prospects out there.
