While the UFC was set to cap off International Fight Week on Saturday, half a world away, RIZIN Fighting Federation was also in action with RIZIN 36.
The Okinawa-based card had been expected to be headlined by Kai Asakura, the promotion’s former bantamweight champion. However Asakura withdrew from the fight just days out, leaving the co-main event scrap between ex-kickboxers Hiroaki Suzuki and Ren Hiramoto to top the card.
“Me becoming the main event proves that I have what it takes to become a superstar. Watch out for my right hands and kicks. That’s what will seal the deal,” Hiramoto said ahead of the fight.
Also of note, Miyuu Yamamoto, sister of the legendary Norifumi “Kid” Yamamto, was also in action. The standout wrestler, 47, was looking to snap a two-fight skid against Saori Oshima, twenty years her junior.
