Khabib Nurmagomedov managed to turn the biggest win of his career into a nightmare that may see him fined, suspended, or even facing criminal charges, depending on how the fallout from UFC 229 plays out.

If you thought UFC 229 couldn’t get any crazier, think again. After submitting Conor McGregor in the fourth round by rear-naked choke, lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov did the unthinkable. Despite winning, despite getting the last word, he jumped into the crowd and sparked a virtual riot. In the crowd, he immediately attacked McGregor’s jiu-jitsu coach Dillon Danis.

It was a shameful, unnecessary end to an otherwise stellar show. What happened after defied belief. Nurmagomedov’s entourage entered the cage and attacked McGregor from behind. McGregor, exhausted, kept out of the fracas, which saw security, staff, cornermen, coaches, all scrambling to regain control of a situation that had gone very, very south.

Khabib, meanwhile, seemed unaware of just how serious his actions were. Instead, back in the cage, he stood, angrily calling for his belt. “Where’s my belt?” he demanded again and again, ignoring the fact that he had just put 20,000 lives at risk by nearly sparking a riot.

Conor McGregor faced criminal charges for his actions in Brooklyn at UFC 223. It will be interesting to see what befalls Khabib Nurmagomedov following his similar stupidity at UFC 229.

Clearly, there was plenty of reaction from the pros to the goings on, which you can check out below.
