October’s UFC Edmonton card has its main event, and no surprise, welterweight Mike Malott is headlining at home once again.
Malott (14-2-1) is set to take on Joaquin Buckley (21-8) atop the Fight Night card, which goes down on October 17, 2026 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, AB.
SportsNet, the UFC’s official Canadian broadcast partner, was first to report the news. Promotion officials also announced the booking on Tuesday.
Malott is ranked #12, and Buckley #10, in the promotion’s 170lb rankings, as voted on by members of the media. “Proper” Mike Malott, however, enters the fight off a main event win over Gilbert Burns, which saw him retire the Brazilian standout by TKO in the third round in Winnipeg this past April.
That victory was the fourth straight for the Ontario-born star, who will join teammate Jasmine Jasudavicius on the card.
Six of Malott’s eight UFC fights have come on Canadian soil, and he’s 5-1 at home, 7-1 overall in the promotion.
Buckley has dropped his last two fights, losing unanimous decisions to former welterweight champ Kamaru Usman, and fellow contender Sean Brady. The 2020 Knockout of the Year winner had been on a six-fight win streak prior to those setbacks.
The only other fight announced for the UFC Edmonton card to date sees Niagara Top Team’s Jasudavicius taking on Erin Blanchfield. That bout was originally slated to take place at UFC 330 next month.
