Bia Mesquita Ready To Defend, Or Go To UFC

New LFA bantamweight champion Bia Mesquita saw the culmination of years of hard work when she defeated Sierra Dinwoodie at LFA 211 on Friday night to earn MMA gold.

“So happy to be able to prove that everything that I have been dedicating this last year, exactly 12 months for me to get this title since my debut, and all the training and all the helps with my training partners, my coaches. Everything was worth, and I made it become true winning this belt,” Mesquita told Cageside Press after her title win.

“Just so happy to be able to achieve that.”

Mesquita (5-0) is no stranger to gold. The 10-time IBJJF World Champion owns more gold than most rappers alive today. The LFA title adds another chapter to her legacy.

“Every single one means a lot to me. Every step, every title, every win, every victory means a lot. It’s hard because we dedicate so much to be here. I’ve been training for 10 weeks just for this fight. Just to go there and get this belt,” she said.

“It’s been a long journey just for maybe 25 minutes of fight. Not even that tonight. I feel like everything that we do daily is what truly matters. Every single one means a lot because I have to go through so much during the camp. The happiness come(s) and it’s (worth) everything.”

Mesquita is just the third LFA women’s bantamweight champion in the promotion’s history. The previous two, Sarah Simmons (Alpar) and Jaqueline Cavalcanti, signed with the UFC shortly after winning the title.

Could the same be said for Mesquita?

“100% that’s my project, that’s what I want, is to step to the next level. I feel like this chapter of my career is well done, and I’m ready to go to UFC,” she said.

“But I’m patient. I have no rush to do that. If I have to defend my title I’m going to do that.”

LFA bantamweights better prepare because it’s going to be a tall task to get the title away from Mesquita.

“Whoever think they can get it come try. I’m not going to let you. This is mine,” said Mesquita.

“Nobody’s going to take it from me! Not at all.”
