A highly anticipated bantamweight fight at UFC Atlanta this Saturday is off for the time being, as Charles Jourdain has dropped off the card due to an eye injury.
Jourdain (16-8-1), who missed out on the UFC’s return to Montreal last month, was to have faced Ricky Simon (21-6) in Atlanta, GA.
L’Arena MMA was first to report the news. Per additional reporting by Eurosport, the promotion is looking to land a replacement opponent to face Simon.
Canada’s Charles Jourdain made his debut at 135lbs in November, defeating Victor Henry via guillotine choke at UFC Edmonton. That snapped a two-fight skid, and earned “Air” Jourdain a Performance of the Night bonus.
Simon, who holds a win over current UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili, is coming off a knockout of Javid Basharat. Prior to that, he’d lost three straight. Simon has shared the octagon with a who’s who of 135lb’ers including Dvalishvili, Urijah Faber, Rafael Assuncao, Mario Bautista, and Song Yadong, among others.
