UFC Vegas 80: Bobby Green Labels Grant Dawson ‘Boring,’ Wants to Coach TUF

Bobby Green has never been someone who will reserve his words, and that was no different at the UFC Vegas 80 media day.

“King” is coming in off the back of his ninth career submission, defeating Tony Ferguson back in July. This will mark the second time the 37-year-old has headlined a UFC event, with the first being against current champion, Islam Makhachev.

Whenever Bobby Green is on TV or has a mic in his hand, it is must see. At the UFC Vegas 80 media day, Green (30-14-1, 1NC) admitted that he didn’t know who Grant Dawson was and went on to call him ‘boring.’

“Man, I didn’t even know who that guy was, I’d never even heard of him, and that goes to his body of work. I think the issue is that he’s been kind of boring and he’s been in Apex fighting but had he been round these crowds he’d already have felt the pressure from the crowd, they’d let him know ‘we don’t like to see what you’re doing’.

“Even though sometimes he’s got some finishes so it’s like cool, yeah, but it’s a snore fest and so it’s going to be a real test for me to make a boring guy exciting, that’s the real fight.”

Despite Green’s comments, Dawson holds 17 finishes in 22 fights, with 13 of them having come by submission. With that said, Dawson’s finish rate stands at 77%, with Green’s sitting at 42%.

Bobby Green is now 45 fights into his professional career and with him seemingly nowhere near fighting for a title, there may be questions as to what’s next for his career. The veteran mentioned how he’d like to coach a season of The Ultimate Fighter.

“I was thinking about that today, what box would be left. I’d probably say The Ultimate Fighter, you know, hosting and Ultimate Fighter, I think I’d bring some new interesting sh*t to it, so maybe doing something like that.”
