Karine Silva Had No Idea She Had One Second Left When Moroz Tapped

Boston, MA – Fresh off her first round submission victory at UFC 292 on Saturday night flyweight Karine Silva revealed she did not know she had just one second left on the clock when she submitted Maryna Moroz.

“I did not know there was a second remaining. Actually I wasn’t going to let her go because that’s the instruction that we have,” Silva told reporters including Cageside Press through a translator at her post-fight scrum.

“Never let go until the referee stops the fight. I’m glad it happened, very happy. I’m kind of curious. I’m anxious to watch my fight again so I can see the one second happening.”

This was actually a rematch of a fight the two had back in 2014 where Moroz actually submitted Silva via arm bar. The long wait to get the fight back wasn’t a big deal for Silva who said she’s not one to think about revenge very much.

“I’m not the type of person that actually sees like revenging, or avenging losses, but it just so happened that she was there as an opponent, and I did my job,” she said.

Now the next step is to look at what is next. With a first round finish and seemingly no damage absorbed Silva is set for at least one more fight in 2023. The UFC heads back to Brazil later this year, and that’s definitely something the flyweight would consider.

“This is something I want to sit down with my coaches and manager and figure things out. We’re going to discuss when to fight again,” she said.

“Why not? Who knows we may actually end up fighting in Sao Paulo, we may ask for that fight, if there is an opponent, obviously we will take that fight.”
