A highly publicized encounter with a Logan Paul lookalike has landed Nate Diaz in hot water.

Diaz, who choked out Rodney Petersen following Misfits Boxing 6 in New Orleans, is facing a second-degree battery charge stemming from the incident. A warrant has now been issued for his arrest, per the New Orleans Police Department.

MMA Fighting was first to report news of Diaz’s latest legal troubles. Cageside Press has submitted a records request to the NOPD for additional details on the matter.

Per the initial report by MMA Fighting, New Orleans police opted to lay the charge after reviewing video of the incident, which left Petersen unconscious and suffering from an apparent head wound. That is likely to have been sustained after Petersen hit his head on the pavement during the brawl that erupted outside the event.

Diaz had attended Misfits Boxing 6 in support of teammate Chris Avila. The brawl involving Diaz and Petersen came after another incident, which saw Diaz chuck a water bottle at ex-football player, reality TV star and celebrity boxer Chase DeMoor.

Video of the incident involving Diaz and Petersen can be viewed below, and shows Diaz applying the choke before dropping the man.

Having parted ways with the UFC in the fall, Nate Diaz is expected to face Youtuber Jake Paul in a boxing match this August. That will be his first action since a main event victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 last September. The Stockton native had originally been booked in a blatant mismatch against rising star Khamzat Chimaev — but when Chimaev badly missed weight, Ferguson stepped in, having already been booked on the Las Vegas-based card against Li Jingliang.

It’s unclear how this new legal wrinkle will impact Diaz’s boxing debut. A second degree battery charge in Louisiana in a felony that carries the possibility of up to eight years in prison.
