Brock Lesnar, 2009 — UFC 100, and Beating Frank Mir with a Horseshoe
There should be zero surprise that Brock Lesnar makes the list of best heel promos in UFC history. Lesnar, a decorated amateur wrestler, was the WWE heavyweight champion long before he captured that same accolade in the UFC.
Of course, he didn’t talk much in his early WWE run— Lesnar had Paul Heyman for that. In fact, “The Beast Incarnate” didn’t really do much mic work until the latter part of his WWE career. But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t listening.
At UFC 100, Lesnar got his hotly-anticipated rematch with Frank Mir, who had served up the only loss of Lesnar’s early MMA run. Having won the UFC heavyweight title against Randy Couture one fight prior, he would defend the belt against interim champ Mir, unifying the titles and pounding Mir into the canvas.
After the fight, Lesnar let rip a classic promo, exclaiming that “Frank Mir had a horseshoe up his ass— I told him that a year ago. I pulled that son of a b*tch out, and I beat him over the head with it!” Lesnar then said he’d go home, drink a Coors light (knocking then-UFC sponsor Bud Light, who weren’t paying him anything), and maybe get on top of his wife.
Lesnar had a couple of more heel-style moments in the UFC, including an in-cage confrontation with noted pro wrestling fan Daniel Cormier. But UFC 100, really, was Lesnar blending two worlds together.
