Dana White Says UFC Will Cover Cost of Bryce Mitchell’s Charitable Donation

Las Vegas, NV — Bryce Mitchell returned to the cage at UFC 272 on Saturday, and managed to turn heads pretty much all week long.

From his political beliefs to absolutely schooling Brazilian veteran Edson Barboza, Mitchell (14-0) had people talking. He did he again following the win, announcing that he would be giving half his purse — a full $45,000 — to a children’s charity in his native Arkansas.

“For 10 years y’all had my back I haven’t done a damn thing for y’all,” Mitchell announced during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. “And I’m about to show you I’m not just good at hurting people. I can help people. Half of my fight purse, $45,000, is going to Arkansas children with medical conditions who have no hope. We will be their hope! In the name of God these children will be healed.”

Later in the night, UFC President Dana White told media outlets including Cageside Press that the promotion would step up and cover the money on behalf of Mitchell.

“The kid, he’s making 45 and 45 tonight, he’s going to give 45 to the [charity], and I respect that,” White noted. “I said we’ll do it. We’ll take care of it.”

White also touched on Maryna Moroz, who made an impassioned speech in support of her native Ukraine, which remain under attack by Russian forces, following her own win over Mariya Agapova. “It was an awesome performance, an awesome speech,” White stated. Moroz was also awarded one of two Performance of the Night bonuses at the event.
