ONE Championship’s Winter Warriors card was not the event originally scheduled to kick off December for the promotion.
No, that was ONE X, which was to feature a title fight, a crossover multi-discipline bout between Mighty Mouse and Rodtang, and a whole lot more. But instead, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic throwing a wrench in the works, Winter Warriors rolled into Singapore on Friday — and brought with it the conclusion of the women’s atomweight grand prix.
In a tournament that kicked off with names like Seo Hee Ham, Itsuki Hirata, and Meng Bo, injuries had taken their toll. Both Ham and Hirata were forced out; Bo, meanwhile, was eliminated. The finale between Ritu Phogat and Stamp Fairtex, however, still boasted a pair of the strongest atomweight talents in the division — in a classic wrestler versus striker pairing.
Atop the card, meanwhile, lightweight kickboxing champ Regian Eersel put his title on the line against Russian challenger Islam Murtazaev.
