The Weight Cutting Chronicles: UFC Vegas 25 – ‘Tweeners’

TJ “Downtown” Brown (14-8 MMA, 0-2 UFC)

Featherweight (145lbs.): 0-2 (UFC), Missed weight one time

TJ Brown is a 30 year old fighter that was added to the roster after his 2019 victory on the Contender Series. TJ is what I would classify as a “tweener,” as he has competed in both the featherweight and lightweight divisions outside of the UFC. Brown has also had multiple catchweight bouts between 145lbs. and 155lbs.

Brown stands at 5’9″ and has a 73.5″ reach with a very muscular build.

TJ missed weight before his most recent fight against Danny Chavez in August of last year when he weighed in at 146.5lbs. Fighters missing weight by a half pound is often a very bad sign as it often indicates that they were cutting weight (and draining themselves) up until the very last possible moment. Brown is a fighter that could benefit from moving up in weight but because of just how crowded the UFC’s lightweight division is, it might not exactly be the best idea.
