UFC 256: Renato Moicano Feels 155 is Right Division, but “Top Five Contender” Could Lure Him Back Down

A positive COVID-19 test scrapped Renato Moicano’s bout with Rafael Fiziev last month. But with a full recovery, the Brazilian lightweight (and former featherweight) is back at UFC 256, once again paired up with Fiziev.

“I’m feeling very good right now. I didn’t have symptoms. So I didn’t feel much,” he said of his time with the illness that has swept the globe. Of course, Moicano had to take some time off from the gym, but “I was still training at my home. So I was doing a lot of cardio work and exercising, all that stuff.”

Saturday’s fight against Fiziev will be Moicano’s second in the 145lb division. Back in March, he won his lightweight debut, and appears to have found the right weight class. That said, Moicano added this week that the right opponent could lure him back to featherweight.

“Depends on the UFC. Of course, I am feeling better, because I have to cut less weight and I’m feeling stronger,” he stated. “I think this is the right division. But if UFC offered me a really good fighter at 45, a top five contender, I can go back. But right now I’m feeling the best moment of my life, I’m feeling in shape, and I’m feeling I can do even better in the 55lb [division] than the 45.”
