The UFC has announced a fan-pleasing rematch for UFC 331, which will see Renato Moicano face Brian Ortega for the second time.

Promotion officials revealed the booking on Wednesday. The fight will take place in the lightweight division.

The pair first met in the featherweight division in 2017, with Ortega submitting the Brazilian. He’d go on to compete for the UFC’s 145lb title a few wins later, coming up short against Max Holloway in December 2018.

Moicano, meanwhile, would move to lightweight and eventually face Islam Makhachev for gold there. With Ortega finally pulling the trigger on a move to 155lbs, the timing was right to run things back.

Moicano is ranked #10 at lightweight, while Ortega holds the #11 spot in the UFC’s featherweight division at the moment. That said, Brian Ortega has lost his last two fights, and missed weight badly for his August 2025 loss to Aljamain Sterling in Shanghai, China.

Ortega has not fought since. “T-City” was to have faced Moicano in March, only to withdraw from the fight due to injury.

Moicano, meanwhile, submitted Chris Duncan in April to snap a two-fight skid of his own. Prior to the win over Duncan in a Fight Night main event, Moicano had lost to Beneil Dariush, and then-champ Makhachev before that, on short notice.

UFC 331 takes place on September 19, 2026 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, CA. No main event has been announced for the card.
