Journey Newson thought he had a 38 second knockout of Domingo Pilarte in his sophomore outing with the promotion at UFC 247.
That, however, has changed, as Newson’s victory has been overturned to a No Decision (a no contest, in the parlance of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation). The result is listed in the TDLR’s list of suspensions stemming from the February event, which took place in Houston, TX.
Newson (9-2, 1NC) came into the UFC last year, falling to Ricardo Ramos in his debut. To be fair, that fight was taken on short notice. A much better effort in his second trip to the octagon ensued, at least until the fight was overturned. Per a report by ESPN, the result was changed due to a failed drug test — with Newson testing positive for Marijuana.
Infamously, Jessica Eye tested positive under the TDLR back in 2013. That fight saw a win over Sarah Kaufman overturned to a No Decision — despite the amount of the drug found in her system being nearly 10 times less than the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) acceptable threshold.
In short, Texas is not a place you want to fight if you’re going to partake in marijuana use, legal or otherwise.
