The tables are set for the second round of the featherweight grand prix, following Bellator 228 in Los Angeles.
Bellator 228 went down in Los Angeles, California on Saturday night. What was to have been the main event, the featherweight title fight between Patricio Pitbull and Juan Archuleta, actually went down in the penultimate slot on the main card. That was to accommodate the grand prix second round selections. As a result, Lyoto Machida vs. Gegard Mousasi went down last, but Pitbull vs. Archuleta was the true main event.
That fight went the distance, and when all was said and done, Pitbull had little difficulty retaining his 145lb title. The double champ (lightweight and featherweight) will now fight Pedro Carvalho in March.
Machida vs. Mousasi, meanwhile, ended in a split decision win for Gegard Mousasi. That puts Mousasi on track for a rematch with Rafael Lovato Jr., who defeated him for the Bellator middleweight title earlier this year.
