Ryan Couture Talks Pro Wrestling Debut, On Same Card As Frank Mir

Ryan Couture is making his pro wrestling debut Friday under the FSW banner, performing on the same bill as other notable MMA names including Frank Mir, Tom Lawlor, and Dan Severn.

Las Vegas, NV — When you carry the Couture family name, you’re pretty much synonymous with the sport of MMA. So it was no surprise to see Ryan Couture turn up at the Fighter’s Only World MMA Awards 2019 in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Couture wasn’t presenting, but rather just taking in the show, which was expected to feature a cameo from his famous father Randy.

And it’s not MMA that Couture is gearing up for next, he told Cageside Press. “Kind of been taking a break from fighting, and focusing on the gym and coaching, really enjoying that.”

Instead, Couture’s next appearance will be in the squared circle, as he makes his pro wrestling debut for the Future Stars of Wrestling promotion.

“Gave into some peer pressure, doing my first ever pro wrestling match on Friday at an FSW event here in town. That should be a laugh if nothing else,” Couture admitted.

Some other Xtreme Couture names are on the bill, including Gina Mazany and her husband Dave. The event is titled “Natural Born Killers,” and the MMA connection doesn’t stop with Couture.

“I believe the main event is Frank Mir and Tom Lawlor, Stephan Bonnar’s on there somewhere, Gina’s wrestling Kyra Batara, she’s at least locally a well-known name in MMA.” As for Ryan Couture himself, “I’ll be taking on Dave [Mazany].”

This Friday in Las Vegas at the FSW Arena is where the action goes down. And while plenty of pro wrestlers get flack upon jumping to MMA, there’s no denying that the two professions have long been intertwined. Especially with the likes of Dan Severn on the bill Friday.

Fans can follow Couture’s twitter for info on a stream of the show and other details.
