The UFC Sacramento main event is in place, as Germaine de Randamie and Aspen Ladd have agreed to meet atop the Fight Night card.

With plenty of fights booked for July’s UFC Sacramento card, the big question remaining was who would top the event. Well, it appears we have the answer. On Wednesday, MMA Junkie was among the first to report the news that former UFC women’s featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie would face Aspen Ladd in the UFC Sacramento main event. Verbal agreements are in place for the fight, which comes in the wake of Ladd’s Fight of the Night showing at UFC Rochester earlier this month.

For Germaine de Randamie (8–3), it’s just her second fight since defeating Holly Holm for the promotion’s inaugural 145lb title at UFC 208 in 2017. ‘The Iron Lady’ was subsequently stripped of the title for refusing to defend it against Cris Cyborg. She returned to bantamweight last year, defeating Raquel Pennington at UFC Denver in November.

Aspen Ladd, meanwhile, took Sijara Eubanks to a hard-fought decision at UFC Rochester just over 10 days ago. At the time, Ladd sounded as if she was in no rush to get to a title shot. However, the 24-year old is 8-0 in her career, with three wins under the UFC banner. Already ranked fourth in the women’s 135lb weight class, there’s nowhere to go but up. With Holly Holm booked for a title fight, only de Randamie and Ketlen Vieira stood ahead of her. Germaine de Randamie is ranked first in the weight class.

Vieira, however, has not fought in over a year, due to struggles with injury. That will put the winner of Ladd vs. de Randamie in striking distance of the title.

Amanda Nunes will next defend the belt against Holm at UFC 239.

UFC Sacramento (UFC Fight Night 155/UFC on ESPN+ 13) takes place July 13, 2019 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California. Urijah Faber will come out of retirement to face Ricky Simon in the evening’s scheduled co-main event.
