One of the early favorites to win the Professional Fighters League heavyweight tournament badly missed weight on Wednesday for tomorrow’s PFL 1 show in New York.
The PFL’s season opener on Thursday is a go, though not without some last-minute drama. Weigh-ins for the event took place Wednesday, and former UFC heavyweight Shawn Jordan, who was set to face Philippe Lins, came in well over the 265lb heavyweight limit. Jordan reportedly hit the scales at 275.2lbs. That shocking miss resulted in his bout against Lins being scrapped from the card. He may also find himself out of the million dollar tournament.
That wasn’t the only shuffling of the deck, however. Due to an interesting rule under the always “fun” NYSAC, fighters must weigh in within 25lbs of each other. That meant that Alex Nicholson, who hit the scales at 214.6lbs, was not permitted to face original opponent Kelvin Tiller, who was just under 266lbs. Instead, Nicholson will meet Jake Huen, and Huen’s original opponent Caio Alencar will get Tiller.
A featherweight bout between Andre Harrison and Juma Tuerxun headlines the show.
Maybe it’s time to rethink hosting cards in New York, at least until their commission sorts out their many, many issues.
