The UFC Atlantic City co-main event is a rematch between top featherweights Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson.

UFC Atlantic City is headlined by top lightweights Kevin Lee and Edson Barboza, however, before we get to that fight, we have the co-main which features a rematch between top featherweights Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson. Edgar originally defeated Swanson via fifth-round submission about four years ago. Tonight, they rematch after having both lost to Brian Ortega in their most recent fights.

Frankie and Cub both come out throwing a lot of feints. Frankie looks for the takedown and Cub shrugs him off. Frankie using the double jab a lot and is likely waiting for Cub to really commit to something so he can shoot for a takedown. Good right hand and Frankie shoots for a takedown on the cage that Cub ultimately stuffs. Cub has been very tentative to start the fight as Frankie has been pressuring. Cub throws a spinning back kick as round one comes to a close.

Round two went much like round one went, Frankie pressuring Cub using lots of feints and jabs. Edgar also worked in some very nice leg kicks that bruised Swanson’s leg. Cub continued to not throw much besides stuff a couple of half-hearted takedowns from Edgar. Swanson landed a nice one-two near the end of the round but that was the only offense from Swanson.

In round three, Swanson came out slightly busier, Frankie still landing more, however, with his jabs and kicks. Frankie pressured Swanson to the fence and looked for the takedown, again Swanson stuffed it. If there’s any positive to take out of this bout for Swanson, it’s his great takedown defense. Swanson tried to walk Edgar down in the last minute, Cub started throwing some combinations and landed some nice shots. Nice shots by Cub, but likely too late.
