Jamie Siraj made his promotional debut at UFC Winnipeg, facing John Yannis in bantamweight action, a fight that was remarkable simply for Siraj being there.

After a long road to reach the UFC, Siraj’s appearance on the card marked a significant milestone in his career. Now standing on the sport’s biggest stage, he had the opportunity to prove he belongs among the division’s rising talent.

For years, Siraj battled major health complications, going into septic shock, being put into a medically induced coma, and nearly dying. The Canadian, who started his career 8-2, did not fight from mid-2019 to mid-2023, a four-year span that has made him grateful simply to be alive, he noted during the UFC Winnipeg media day this week.

As for Yannis, he dropped his debut against Austin Bashi, and was looking to bounce back at the Canada Life Centre on Saturday.

It was a battle of both guys feeling eachother out for the first minute and a half. Siraj wasn’t getting his wrestling off and paid for it, getting dropped with a right hand. He was able to survive but would get clipped twice more on the way in. That had Siraj shoot in for a takedown, but Yannis had heavy hips. Yannis immediately landed some heavy elbows, and the ref stopped it, saving Siraj from any more damage.

Official Result: John Yannis def. Jamie Siraj via R1 TKO, 2:43
