UFC 328 has lost a high-profile light heavyweight match-up.

Former 205lb champ Jan Blachowicz was to have faced Bogdan Guskov at the event on May 9, a rematch of their UFC 323 bout back in December. That fight ended in a majority draw.

On Saturday, however, Blachowicz (29-11-2) revealed that he had suffered a meniscus tear, and was out of the fight as a result.

“Don’t count your chickens before they hatch,” the Polish star wrote on social media. “I was supposed to be in the States next week, but plans had to change. I’m beyond pissed. Last round of sparring, wrong position and a kick to the knee. Torn meniscus.”

“The plan and goal were clear, so the disappointment is huge. But this isn’t the end! I’m already working on getting back as soon as possible. Coming back to finish things on my own terms.”

Jan Blachowicz has competed sparingly over the past couple of years and is 1-2-2 since May 2022. That span includes a draw against Magomed Ankalaev in a fight for the UFC’s vacant light heavyweight title in December 2022, and losses to both Alex Pereira and Carlos Ulberg, fellow champions in the division.

UFC 328 takes place in Newark, New Jersey and is headlined by a middleweight title fight between champ Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland.
