Erin Blanchfield Brushes Off Barber Trash Talk, Needs Impressive Win

UFC flyweight Erin Blanchfield has been on the brink of a title shot for what feels like a couple years now, but she’ll need an impressive win over Maycee Barber at UFC Vegas 107 to solidify it.

“I think with a really good performance, at this point, it matters. It’s winning, but also how you win,” Blanchfield told reporters on Wednesday.

“Plan on winning in a impressive fashion.”

Blanchfield (13-2) gets Barber at the UFC APEX who has been out of action since last March. She was set to face Rose Namajunas at UFC Denver last July, but withdrew. Still Blanchfield isn’t taking her lightly.

“Macy’s a pretty aggressive fighter. She’s very forward pressure, a lot of big hooks, this is her first five rounder. I can see her possibly maybe being a little bit more reserved, but I think that’s going to come out of her at some point,” she said.

Barber hasn’t been quiet about her opponent. During media day she said Blanchfield was one-dimensional and that she would finish her in the main event.

Blanchfield almost smiled at that.

“Most of the time I feel like I just brush it off. They got to say what they got to say, but I know who I am as a fighter. I know I’m well-rounded,” she said.

One-dimensional or not Blanchfield knows she can fight anywhere. The question is will Barber look to go to the ground with her?

Blanchfield doesn’t think so.

“I don’t think she would want to go to the ground with me, but you never know,” she said.

“Five rounds a lot can happen. I’m ready for it anywhere.”
