Professional boxer Yolanda Vega gets a big time matchup against former boxing champion and UFC champion Holly Holm on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on June 28th in Anaheim, CA.
Vega (9-0) will put her undefeated record on the line against Holm who hasn’t stepped into the ring since 2013. While having a lot of respect for the combat sports great Vega isn’t in awe of her opponent.
“She’s an excellent fighter. Has had an amazing journey truly,” Vega told Cageside Press following the press conference.
“I say that with the utmost respect, but I think it’s time for the new generations to take over. Here I am to take care of it.”
Holm’s been out of boxing for over a decade now. While ring rust may present himself on fight night Vega remained respectful of her opponent.
“I’m sure that’s going to be very important in the ring. I’ve been in boxing rhythm,” she said.
“That being said we both work and train in the ring to win. I’m sure on June 28th I’ll be getting my hand raised.”
This bout marks Vega’s biggest fight of her career on the biggest stage she’s been on. She has the opportunity to put herself, and women’s boxing, on the map.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity they’ve given me. I want to show that women can put on good fights,” said Vega.
“Why not be on one of the best cards that they can make in the US and the world?”
