Influencer turned pro boxer Jake Paul is still planning to make good on a promise to fight in an MMA bout for the Professional Fighters League.
Paul was in California for the Paul vs. Chavez Jr. press conference. Paul will face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, son of legendary Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez, on June 28th in Anaheim, California.
“Yeah I want to be like Holly (Holm) here,” Paul told Cageside Press following the press conference.
“Test my skills in the cage. That’s something I’m super, super interested in. I think it would be a very, very big spectacle.”
Even after signing a lucrative deal with PFL in early 2023 Paul is still to step into the cage for the promotion. The boxer has continued to take boxing matches with no real date or opponent set for an MMA debut.
He does have a couple of interesting names however. One very expected and one very much not.
“Nate Diaz is still ducking,” Paul said before being interrupted by his business partner Nakisa Bidarian who mentioned Oleksandr Usyk.
“Find the right opponent. Usyk, maybe,” said Paul.
“Usyk has called out Jake Paul multiple times in MMA. They’ve been in touch with us behind the scenes saying they want to do that fight in 2026,” said Bidarian adding that the PFL is indeed looking into making that fight.
“It’s something that we definitely want to pursue.”
Paul is coming off a controversial win over 58-year-old Mike Tyson last november.
