UFC welterweight Mike Malott isn’t taking the bait laid by Charles Radtke who he faces at UFC 315 on Saturday night in Montreal.
Malott (11-2-1) rarely takes part in any pre-fight talk, but Radtke still tried to get him going anyway. The American said, during his media day scrum, that he took offense to Canadians booing the USA’s National Anthem in a hockey game.
“If he wants to build extra pressure for himself or that’s what he needs to do to motivate himself, go for it,” Malott told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.
“For me, I’m focused on the task at hand, which is a fight in the octagon. I’m not focused on all the outside things that you could possibly focus on as far as all the other stuff that can come into your mind, but really doesn’t actually affect what happens in the octagon.”
Radtke has grabbed on to a sort of heel role in his recent bouts from flipping fans off to saying some rather vulgar stuff on the mic. Malott remained steadfast that he doesn’t care about anything outside of the octagon when it comes to the fight.
“He’s just creating more unnecessary noise. If that’s where you want to put your energy go for it. That’s not where I’m putting my energy. I’m putting my energy into the octagon,” he said.
