LFA lightweight Richie Miranda has gold on his mind as he gets set to challenge Richie Lewis for the lightweight title at LFA 207 in Sioux Falls, SD this Friday night.
Miranda (10-1) comes into the fight on a four-fight win streak taking on the undefeated champion Lewis in the main event. Lewis, known for his wrestling, provides a steep challenge for Miranda.
‘El Machete’ is ready for it.
“He’s a good wrestler. He’s kind of well-rounded, but I’m there to disrupt that,” Miranda told Cageside Press.
“Show my style, prove that I’m the better MMA fighter. Come out on top, beat him in all areas.”
Lewis has said in interviews that he doesn’t believe Miranda’s style of wrestling can match his own in the fight. The challenger definitely brings more than just the ground game to battle with.
“I’m a wrestler too. Display my skills sets and take the fight wherever I need to. I’m always looking for the finish, but if I have to go 25 minutes, I’m well prepared for that as well,” he said.
“I have other tools as well. Even if I get to the ground I can still get back up, and threaten. I’m confident in all my tools.”
On the line is the LFA lightweight title that has been held by the likes of Austin Hubbard, Robert Watley, Bryce Logan, and JaCobi Jones to name a few. Adding his name to that list is the goal on Friday night.
“It would just be another stamp in my journey. When I first fought (in Sioux Falls) they were fighting for the lightweight title. I saw that and every year that I fought for LFA I write down my goals. If I ever did get to fight for the LFA title I’m bringing it back here to Santa Ana. That’s what I’m looking to do on Friday night,” he said.
For the victor go the spoils as the saying goes, but with the LFA title comes the notoriety of being a champion. That title of ‘LFA Champion’ also catches the eyes and ears of the biggest promotion in the world.
“(I’m calling) for the UFC bro. I got my cup ready,” Miranda said with a smile.
“I’m calling for Dana (White). I feel like my resume speaks for itself so definitely looking to go call Dana again. That’s what I’m looking to get into. Just like I started with LFA take one fight at a time and start climbing up that ladder.”
First things first he must take the champion out, and bring the belt home. Fight fans that like a finisher cannot afford to miss Miranda at LFA 207.
“I don’t listen to the outside noise. I’m always in the underdog mentality. My style speaks for itself. Chopping time and Machete’s about to go out there and finish the body that’s in front of me,” said Miranda.
“Expect beautiful violence. Machete style and chopping time.”
