A relatively quiet weekend for MMA gave LFA a change for a bigger piece of the spotlight, as they hosted LFA 233 at the Seneca Allegany Resort and Casino in Salamanca, New York.
The card was topped by LFA welterweight champion Jonathan Piersma, sort of. Piersma had been scheduled to defend his title against Brazil’s Diego Bianchini, but lost the title on the scale after missing weight on Thursday. That meant that only Bianchini was eligible to win the championship; should Piersma win, he would not retain the belt.
Lightweight champion Richie Miranda had no such trouble making weight for the co-main event, thankfully. Miranda was set to face off against Robert Varricchio for LFA’s 155lb strap.
