Former UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson will look to continue his MMA career, but not under the UFC banner.

Ferguson has signed with the new Global Fight League (GFL) which holds it’s draft on Jan 24.

Ferguson (25-11) finished his UFC career on an 8-fight losing streak having last won a fight in 2019. The longtime MMA fan-favorite and former UFC lightweight interim champion had been on a tear in the promotion, but injuries seemed to take their toll.

Taking the interim title in a fight with Kevin Lee at UFC 216 Ferguson was set to unify the title against Khabib Nurmagomedov. Unfortunately an accident during fight week took Ferguson out of the bout and the two never met in the cage.

Tony Ferguson is one of many former UFC fighters that have signed to the GFL. Legends such as Rashad Evans, Junior Dos Santos, Frank Mir, Fabricio Werdum, and Benson Henderson are just a few of the many former UFC fighters to sign.

The signee announcements haven’t been without controversy. Many fighters who were announced to have signed had no idea they had done so. Early hiccups are expected with a brand new promotion, but fans are still excited to see another avenue for fighters.

The GFL draft takes place on Jan 24 live on their online platforms hosted by a familiar voice, Michael Goldberg, Robin Black and Brendan Schaub as part of their coverage team.
