St. Louis – UFC heavyweight Rodrigo Nascimento looks to capitalize on Derrick Lewis’ name and popularity in the main event of UFC St. Louis on Saturday night.
“Everyone love Derrick. He’s an amazing fighter, but this will be good for me. Good for my business too,” Nascimento told reporters on Wednesday.
“For sure he have a big name. Good hype on him too. After this Saturday everyone is going to know my name because I will beat him.”
Nascimento (11-1) is fully aware that Lewis isn’t just a name, but someone who will finish an opponent if they’re not careful.
“I think he’s an (unpredictable) fighter. He’s super dangerous. He have (heavy) hands, but he’s a complete fighter too. I watch his fights. He know(s) how to put someone down. He can strike, and he can fake. He’s a complete fighter for sure,” Nascimento said.
In Lewis‘ previous fight Jailton Almeida employed a grappling heavy attack option to keep the big heavyweight down instead of striking with him. It’s a formula that may help Nascimento come out with the victory.
“I have many ways to beat him. To put him in the ground is just one more way. I can strike, I can knock him out, I can finish him, or I can fight the five rounds,” he said.
