Impa Kasanganay Sees Tougher Challenges At Middleweight

PFL middleweight Impa Kasanganay believes the 185 division is one of the best in the game and will bring him the better challenges in this year’s PFL World Tournament.

“I started my career at 185, fought Johnny (Eblen) at 185 the most recent fight. I know for a fact people haven’t seen the best version of me yet,” Kasanganay told Cageside Press in an interview.

“I’m going to show that and keep refining it and getting better. I’ll claim the title at 205 in this year’s tournament as well. I would do that. Me at 185, healthy, dialed-in, focused, prepped and prepared? Not a fighter in the world that’ll stick with me.”

Kasanganay (18-5) has bounced back-and-forth between 185 and 205 in part of his career. He just believes middleweight has the best talent and the tougher challenges for himself.

“I believe it’s one of the best weight classes. Excellent fighters and I have an opportunity to take on each challenge at the highest level. To me that’s an honor,” he said.

“Fabian, excellent fighter, all the other guys on this roster? Excellent fighters.”

His first round matchup against Fabian Edwards this Friday night at the PFL World Tournament in Orlando provides such a challenge for Kasanganay. Edwards is coming off challenging Eblen for the middleweight title for the second time. Edwards fell short both times, but Kasanganay isn’t underestimating his opponent.

“Fabian Edwards, good fighter, man comes from a great team. Good counter-striker. Overall good MMA game,” he said at media day on Wednesday.

“He knows where he likes to put himself. Good patience, good timing, everything. I’m looking forward to the great challenge ahead. When I claim this victory we dominate and move forward.”

The challenge ahead for him this Friday night is Edwards, but there will be plenty waiting for the winner come round 2.

“I believe 85 as a whole is one of the best weight classes. So for me it’s like why not take out the best of the best,” said Kasanganay.

“Do you want to be the best of the best or the best of the worst? I’m always here to be the best of the best.”
