Trey Ogden earned his second UFC win on Saturday at the UFC Apex as he beat Kurt Holobaugh by decision.

Recent The Ultimate Fighter winner Holobaugh started his second run in the UFC with a fight against young lightweight Trey Ogden. Ogden had won a fight and lost two before a career-best performance was taken away from him by referee error. However, at UFC Vegas 89 he showed that that performance is what we can expect from him now, as he dominated his veteran opponent with wrestling over the course of three rounds.

Holobaugh came right at Ogden to start the fight, but his aggressiveness made it easy for Ogden to level change reactively and take Kurt down. From top-half he controlled Holobaugh for the entire rest of the round, landing ground strikes semi-consistently but with no real power behind them.

The second round started the same way except he measured his aggression more and Ogden did not take any shots until ninety seconds in, at which point Kurt defended it. The hands of Holobaugh had the advantage in round two though Ogden landed strikes of his own. Holobaugh was ahead until Trey landed a takedown with an outside trip from the clinch halfway through the round. Once again, Kurt could not get back up and Ogden did more damage from top in the second round by pinning one of Holobaugh’s wrists, creating room to land cleaning punches with the other.

The final round started with Holobaugh on the feet but unable to land much as Ogden circled frantically. Then he suddenly stopped and landed a great double leg takedown one minute into the round. Once more he was able to settle in half-guard and dominate Kurt from there. In the final minute he even passed to mount and looked to set up an arm-triangle choke, but was unable to before the horn ended the bout.

Ogden predictably won all three rounds on the scorecards, putting him back at .500 in the UFC and putting his gym, Marathon MMA, to 2-0 on the night after Miles Johns’ win earlier. He also shouted out teammate Garrett Armfield.

Official Result: Trey Ogden def. Kurt Holobaugh by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
