Song Yadong Not Taking Anything From Yan, Says He’s Still A Great Fighter

Miami, FL – UFC bantamweight Song Yadong sees his fight against Petr Yan at UFC 299 as the biggest fight of his life when they step into the octagon on Saturday night.

“Definitely. This fight is most important in my life so far, yeah,” Song told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.

“If I can win the fight it will get me one step closer to the title.”

Song (21-7-1) said the pair were originally booked in late 2023, but the fight never happened with the latter withdrawing from the bout.

This fight I (really) wanted. We (were) supposed to fight in December, but for some reason he pulled out. He got injured or something. Right now it’s a pretty good time. I had more time to prepare,” Song said.

Even the with the former champ struggling Song sees his opponent as someone who hasn’t lost too much in terms of a step in fighting.

“He was former champion top level fighter. He have great striking. I believe he beat Sean (O’Malley). He definitely is (a) great fighter still, and a long break won’t affect him any I think. Maybe gave him more time to reflect on his skills and improve them,” he said.
