Serhiy Sidey Doesn’t Find Taveras Rematch at UFC 297 Weird

Toronto, ON — Contender Series alum Serhiy Sidey is booked into a rematch with Ramon Taveras at UFC 297 this Saturday, and that’s nothing new for the Canadian.

Bantamweight Sidey (10-1) has competed in rematches twice before, and come out on top both times. The interesting twist here is that the pair faced each other on the Contender Series last year, so for Sidey, it’s an immediate rematch (Taveras fought once in between, appearing on DWCS a second time).

“It’s not that weird. In my professional career, I’ve had two rematches,” Sidey noted during Wednesday’s UFC 297 media day. “I’ve had two rematches in my professional career and I did it twice, I finished those guys the second time around quicker than the first time. Honestly it’s nothing new for me. I  made the adjustments, I’m just going to do this in a cleaner fashion this time.”

Sidey previously told Cageside Press that he’d wished he was a singer growing up — he just wanted to perform. He expanded on that Wednesday, asked what genre he might have lent his voice to.

“Anything. I have a horrible voice though. But it was just the whole idea of, I just want to be in front of a crowd. I remember going to my high school talent show and seeing people kill in on stage and I was like ‘ahh I wish I had that skill.’ I found fighting instead and now I get to do it in front of a crazy crowd.”

That crazy crowd arrives Saturday at the ScotiaBank Arena in Toronto.
