UFC bantamweight Serhiy Sidey fought a very technical fight against heavy punched Cameron Smotherman and came out with the win at UFC Des Moines on Saturday night.
Sidey (12-2) has had an up-and-down start to his UFC career. He lost his debut against Ramon Taveras via split-decision, and bounced back with a split-decision win over Garrett Armfield. He had mixed feelings about both fights, but was glad he clearly won in Iowa.
“I felt like I won my first. Felt like I kind of lost my second and I definitely won this third,” Sidey told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.
“I’m just going to keep growing man. Keep getting better. I have so much more to improve on. Have to get back to the drawing board, work with my coaches, and just grateful for the UFC. Whatever they want next for me I’m ready to go.”
Unfortunately for Sidey he fought just one week before the UFC’s return to Montreal, Canada. Sidey, born in Canada, really wanted a spot on UFC 315 next weekend.
“I was pushing for the Montreal card so bad, but I’m glad I got to fight tonight,” he said.
“Then I get to see my homies Jas (Jasmine Jasudavicius) and Mikey (Mallott) fight next week. I’m going to be celebrating.”
