Not Just Shavkat: An In-Depth Look into the Kazakhstan MMA Scene

Bantamweight, Bekzat Almakhan (17-1):

Almakhan is one of the better prospects out of Kazakhstan and some think he is the best. He’s only 26 and already has a ton of experience with eighteen pro-fights. He actually only fought one person with a losing record which is impressive. Of fifteen finishes thirteen are from getting the job done with his hands.

Flyweight, Damir Tolenov (11-1):

Tolenov is a good striker but an even more skilled grappler holding four submission wins. That’s saying a lot cause his striking is really good. Tolenov slips and rips so well and his shot placement is excellent. Although his grappling is his strong spot I do really enjoy the striking. He’s both technical and deadly. His vision and his striking IQ really stand out. I believe this guy is a top 15-level UFC flyweight in the future.

Flyweight, Dias Erengaipov (14-3):

After losing two in a row a couple of years ago, Kazakhstan’s Dias Erengaipov hasn’t lost since winning his last five fights. Erengaipov is the current Naiza FC flyweight champion who’s coming off his first title defense. Erengaipov is a menace to deal with. His striking isn’t much but his wrestling and overall ground game are a huge problem. The relentless pace he puts on breaks guys. Erengaipov will ragdoll opponents to the mat and will smother them on top. He can either find the GNP TKO or find the neck. He’s so good that I believe he could be a top 15 UFC flyweight currently.
