Not Just Shavkat: An In-Depth Look into the Kazakhstan MMA Scene

Flyweight, Alibi Idiris (8-0):

Idiris has been fighting good enough competition and in his last fight he showed he was at a certain level beating another good fighter. Idiris is a high-paced fighter that can fight at a good rate for the distance of the fight. Idiris is adaptable in fights being able to adjust and fight anywhere. What stands out is his pace even for a 125er.

Flyweight, Arman Ashimov (12-3-1):

Ashimov has been missing in action lately but he’s still a top prospect in the flyweight division. He hasn’t fought in over two years and his last outing was a boxing fight. Ashimov is a combat jiu-jitsu master of sports but is a primarily a striker. He’s an impressive counterstriker and a good volume guy who really just has wonderful hands. Ashimov is also a sniper, especially with his right hand where he has the power to shut the lights out with one punch. Hopefully, he comes back soon because he is UFC-level.

Strawweight, Ayan Tursyn (5-0):

I’ve been high on Tursyn ever since she was an amateur. As an ammy, she had experience with IMMAF representing Kazakhstan and did exceptionally well. On the feet, Tursyn has a lot of movement and throws a lot of kicks. She loves to throw a lot of front kicks and spinning kicks in particular. Tursyn likes to be diverse and tricky in her approach. It’s hard to tell what she’s going to throw. As a pro and amateur, she’s had a few highlight reel knockouts. Her wrestling and grappling have improved over the course of her career. She’s the best female prospect out of the country and will do really well in the UFC.
